Book 2… and 3… and others

I may have a problem. I cannot seem to not write. I figured the 3-5 weeks that it would take to dev edit By the Fates, Freed would be a downtime of sorts for me. I’d play Xbox (Halo 4, Tomb Raider, and Bioshock Infinite), I’d read, and I’d sleep. Holy hell would I sleep.

Instead, I’m still up writing half the night working on books 2 and 3 in the By the Fates series. Yes, I am working on both at the same time.

This is not smart. I should either be relaxing or at the very least ONLY working on Book 2. But while swimming the other day, I realized I knew how Book 2 ended and Book 3 began. So that night I started writing the ending. And kept writing. I’ve managed to consign to the bits and bytes about 12,000 words of those scenes so far, a solid 8,000 of them that definitely belong in Book 3. This is in addition to the other 20,000 words that I’ve managed to get down in Book 2.

Then as I was desperately trying to fall asleep this morning (yes, this morning… I can’t seem to get to bed before midnight), I came up with a delicious twist on the standard vampire lore that will fit with another WIP (work in progress) I started several years ago. I’m also still noodling on the post-apocalyptic novella and how I can finish that story.

What is wrong with me?

At least I’m keeping busy while I wait anxiously for the dev edits to come back. Though now that we’ve officially reached the “one month give or take a week” time frame that the editor quoted me, I’m afraid I am going to start obsessively checking my email, just waiting to get my book back in my hot little hands.

Perhaps I will need to lock up my computer for a day once I publish By the Fates, Freed and chain myself to the Xbox controller. Oh, who am I kidding? The day I publish, I’m just going to spend the night like I always do. Typing away at another manuscript.
