More on feedback

I’m still editing, By the Fates, Freed. And editing, and editing, and editing… I’m starting to think that this book isn’t going to be out until March at this point. However, that’s all right. I’d rather take the time and make it the best I can, despite how very much I want to be done and see it released.

I’ve been on vacation this past week, running races in Bermuda, but while I was gone, I got possibly the best piece of feedback I could possibly ask for. Now, let me state up front that the book still needs work. It needs a full ending for one. But it also needs some serious help world building. I do great with character development, but not so well with building the physical world. I suppose I just don’t care as much about whether the lamps are gas or electric, but I know many readers do.

Anyway, the feedback I got from one beta reader was that she was dreaming about my characters and wondering what would happen to them. I think that is potentially the best feedback you can possibly give an author. I’ve only had that reaction to two authors that I read. I am pretty sure I beamed for six or seven hours after I got her tweet on the matter.

Back to the editing now.

Oh wait.

So what characters do I dream of?

Lindsay Buroker’s Emperor’s Edge series is the main set of characters I dream about while reading, and in fact, if I cannot carve out a weekend to read a new EE book or short story from start to finish, I won’t even start it because I know I won’t get a good night’s sleep until it’s done. When I read book 4 of the series, it ended on a cliffhanger. A doosey. I dreamt about the characters for at least a week after that one. My recommendation? If you start reading the series (and I hope you do as it’s excellent), don’t even start Book 4 unless you also buy Book 5 at the same time.
